2011 State Speech Wrap-Up
The 2011 State Speech Festival brought 375 schools to the University of Wisconsin – Madison campus on April 15 and 16. Although the weather did not cooperate the students had a wonderful time. 4,868 students participated in the four rounds (217 more than in 2010). WHSFA and the students kept 488 judges busy. WHSFA wants to thank the coaches who give up so much of their time to make it possible for students to have this experience.

Extemporaneous Prep Room Computer Policy
The WHSFA has passed a policy allowing extemporaneous speakers to bring and utilize a computer to retrieve files digitally stored on that device. Following are the guidelines.
Students who have completed grades 9, 10 or 11 and are interested in developing an event for the 2010-2011 high school forensics competition should attend the UW-Whitewater workshop, July 25-30. Participants will receive individualized coaching. Students will also research and write speeches, interpret literature and learn the art of effective delivery. Learn more and register online.
2008 Excellence in Speech Awards Named
The Excellence in Speech Award is given annually to the top 5% scoring schools at the Wisconsin State Speech Festival. These schools demonstrate for all the participating schools how hard work and good coaching pays off. No school wins the Excellence in Speech Award without dedicated coaches and hard working students.
Outstanding Students Score 25, Four Consecutive Years
It is always rewarding every year after the Wisconsin State Speech Festival to congratulate the students who medaled at State. Each student has brought their personal best to the Festival. This year WHSFA had four students receive 25 points for the fourth consecutive year. Interestingly none of these students did it in one category but have scored 25 in a variety of categories.
